Timbaland reportedly refused to play a club gig in Detroit on Thursday meant to benefit victims of the water crisis in nearby Flint because he and his entourage were offered the wrong type of champagne backstage.
The New York Daily News reports that Timbaland and his crew were given Dom Perignon rather than Ace of Spades, a brand made popular by Jay Z that Detroit’s Club Bleu doesn’t carry.
“They had about 15 [other] bottles of liquor and champagne, which is extremely excessive, especially for a charity event,” says Club Bleu co-owner Mitchell Jaworski. “They seemed more concerned about getting every drop of liquor.” Timbaland ultimately took the stage at 1 a.m. and “just stood there” in protest as another DJ performed behind him. Timbaland since told a fan on social media, “Why would I do that?”
